On the 23rd of October 6 Great White Egrets roosted in Salina Nature Reserve. Towards the evening gunfire from the opposite ridge scared the birds into flight and as they were flying low several shots were fired at them. Despite the presence of the ALE and a BirdLife Malta team one of the birds was shot down. The ALE apprehended an individual who was searching the field the bird fell in - the individual concerned admitted to shooting the bird.
